Mechanics Insurance Explained

What Is Mechanics Insurance?

Mechanics insurance is a tailored package of covers that protects your workshop, your team and your livelihood from the risks of running a repair business. Rather than one policy, it brings together the covers a motor trade business actually needs.

That usually means public liability, tools and equipment cover, motor trade road risk, garage keeper's liability and workers compensation. As a broker, we help you review each one and arrange what fits your operation, so a damaged customer vehicle, an injured staff member or a stolen toolbox is not a cost you carry alone.

Why Do Mechanics Need Insurance?

Mechanics face everyday risks that can turn into expensive claims or legal disputes. You work with customer vehicles, heavy equipment and busy premises, and any of those can lead to damage you are responsible for.

A single public liability claim, a workshop fire or a break-in can cost far more than a year of cover. Being uninsured can also breach the conditions of a workshop lease, a trade licence or a dealership contract.

  • You lease or own a commercial garage space
  • You need to replace damaged or stolen tools
  • You want to cover legal costs on a liability claim
  • You need to protect your income if you cannot work
